Musing of One Wondering What the Roman Government in the First Century Did About Sword Control

Rhetorical question: if the people could establish an immutable rule that unless the "fiscal cliff" is definitively solved by January 20th, then the President and all Members of Congress would take an automatic 10% pay cut for the rest of their term, what would happen?

  1. Sounds like a good idea to me. Something needs to happen to make our elected officials actually do what they're in Washington to do.

    1. Unfortunately, the immutable rule of government is that there are no immutable rules.

Long ago, when I covered Pennsylvania State politics in Harrisburg, PA, I discovered the one thing which appeared necessary to prepare oneself for the skills required to become a State legislator: a large franchise of new and used car dealerships. It didn't hurt to make Ketchup, either.
